Giving Hope to the orphan and vulnerable children in Africa

In January 2010, Chris and his wife Michelle traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to bring home their four-year-old daughter Kidist. The adoption of Kidist began with the persistent prayer of their daughter Chloe in 2007. These prayers led to a journey that opened their eyes and hearts to the plight of the orphan and their call to help.

While in Ethiopia, Chris and Michelle were introduced to a ministry called Yezelalem Minch which means “eternal springs.” Yezelalem Minch, located in Addis Ababa, the capitol of Ethiopia, is a local NGO reaching out to children whose parents have died of AIDS, while providing support and meeting the needs of families who have taken in orphan children.

Currently, they serve over one thousand children, but less than half of these children have sponsors. An amazing woman named Birtukan founded this ministry. She and her husband continue to offer these children a spring in the desert of despair. It is the Shine in Africa mission to help grow this ministry and give hope to the orphan and vulnerable children in Africa.
